located in the north of Rey, down the slopes of Alborz Mountains,
has never been an important center of carpetweaving. It became the
capital city during the reign of Qajar dynasty, about two- hundred
years ago, and a center of immigration, so, many craftsmen immigrated
to Tehran and brougt their weaving traditions to it also.
In varamin, which is located in the south- east of Tehran, carpetweaving
and kilim- weaving are practiced as well as other handicrafts. The
most common designs in Varamin carpets are: Mina- Khani, Afshan,
corner- medallion or floral Shah- Abbasi, zell-ol-Sultan [Shadow
of the king] .
